Boat Description

The Knysna 500 SE is an elegant, sleek cruising catamaran built with performance, livability, ease of movement, safety and cruising convenience in mind. Knysna, South Africa, is a small town famed for its indigenous woods, timber industry and the craftsmen who have settled there over the years. It has a boatbuilding tradition stretching back centuries. The Knysna Yacht Company builds between four and six catamarans a year, making it a boutique manufacturer offering a semi-custom product. Owners work directly with the factory on all aspects of the specification and build, and are encouraged to visit the factory at least once during construction as well as for the weeklong commissioning, sea trial and handover phase. The owners of Hull Yeah! went through this process and can attest to the quality of the factory environment and management’s hands-on involvement in their yacht. They chose a four-cabin, four-head layout, making it ideal for larger families or charter groups but still providing a master suite that is spacious. The Knysna 500 SE comes standard with much equipment that would be considered optional by many other manufacturers, yet the owners of Hull Yeah specified additional top-shelf equipment to complement the inventory.

Construction of the Knysna 500 SE uses vinylester resins and vacuum-bagged Airex PVC foam core in hulls, decks and bulkheads. This results in a lightweight, stiff hull capable of handling any sea conditions. The interior finish is in high-gloss, high-quality pear veneer which is light and hard wearing. Storage cabinets have latticed door fronts for ventilation and aesthetic texture. The living spaces are well conceived, with creative use of space to provide extensive storage throughout and easy access to the yacht systems. Flow from interior to the expansive cockpit is seamless thanks to double sliding doors that open the full width of the doorway.

The wide, shallow transom steps and a large platform dinghy davit, which rises and lowers to double as a swim platform when at anchor, allow comfortable access to the boat from dinghy, water or dock. The curve of the transom seating area carries over to the transom walkway, creating pleasing lines and ease of movement between hulls, out of the way of those in the cockpit. The cockpit and helm area are designed with a focus on outdoor living and easy communication with the person at the helm.

Hull Yeah! was shipped from South Africa to Florida and has since been used for U.S. East Coast and Bahamas cruising by her owners. U.S. duty has been paid on this yacht.
