Here is a unique opportunity to own S/V Indian Summer, a beautiful classic 1985 Laurent Giles 38, a Laurent Giles design built under the supervision of yacht architect Maarten van der Vlis in Harlingen, Netherlands. The hull and deck moldings were made by Blondicell in Southampton, UK. This elegant encapsulated long-keel cutter with skeg rudder and tiller steering is a traditionally heavy-built, proven blue-water cruiser.
The first owners bought S/V Indian Summer in 1985. Their extensive sailing journey began in Harlingen, navigating through the Kiel Canal to the Baltic Sea. In June 1986 they embarked on an unforgettable voyage to the Mediterranean, passing through Dartmouth, La Coruña, Vigo, Lisbon, Vilamoura, Cádiz, and Gibraltar. The adventure continued through Spain, the Balearic Islands, Sardinia, Sicily, and Malta, where they wintered the vessel. S/V Indian Summer has since sailed the Aegean, the Peloponnese, and Chalkidiki, as well as the western and southern coasts of Turkey, proving its capability as a reliable cruiser. The current owners bought S/V Indian Summer in 1998 and have also cruised extensively in the Mediterranean, the Iberian Peninsula, the United Kingdom, the Atlantic, and the Caribbean. Now she is moored in the beautiful Río Dulce, Guatemala, waiting for her next adventure.
On the interior, the Giles 38 has a warm and traditional layout that provides space for up to seven people in two cabins and a convertible salon with 6.2 ft headroom. The brightwork throughout is in good condition. There are two double berths, including one in the V-berth and another in the starboard aft pilot berth. The spacious salon converts to additional sleeping space, perfect for accommodating guests or family. There is one head with shower and a galley to port with plenty of counter space and storage. For extra ventilation there are multiple opening ports and large forward hatches.
S/V Indian Summer is powered by a diesel engine with approximately 1,290 hours. Additional systems have been installed to improve handling and control, including engine regulators and a bow thruster. The sails are reported to be in good shape, and there is navigation and communication equipment on board, though some items may need replacing.
On the exterior, the Giles 38 has a large, deep, wraparound cockpit for comfort and safety, with abundant storage. The vessel is outfitted with anchoring and ground tackle and has onboard systems to support power and electrical needs.
The current owners are selling this wonderful vessel. Although S/V Indian Summer will need a few upgrades and repairs before she is ready to sail, she is a proven blue-water cruiser capable of taking you anywhere in the world.
