Boat Description

S/V Aurora is a 2019 Fountaine Pajot Lucia 40 Maestro (Owner’s Version) offered for sale by owner. U.S. registered and fully tax-paid, she is a turnkey, offshore-proven cruising catamaran that strikes an ideal balance between performance, comfort, and manageable size for an active cruising couple or family.

Proven offshore performance

Aurora is not a marina queen—she has already crossed the Atlantic from France to the Caribbean and cruised extensively throughout Panama, the San Blas, the Bahamas, Texas, the Keys, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. In every region she has proven to be a well-mannered, safe, and reliable performance cruising catamaran. On a beam or broad reach we routinely see 9–10 knots in 15–16 knots of wind, making passages efficient and enjoyable.

With her shallow draft, she is equally at home gunkholing the Bahamas or making longer coastal and offshore passages. Her sail plan and helm layout make sail handling very manageable, including single-handed sailing when needed (two-person docking is recommended when available, as with any cruising boat).

Comfort & Livability

The Maestro owner’s suite is designed for real cruising comfort. The queen-sized island berth on a pedestal makes it easy to get in and out of bed—and easy to change sheets underway or at anchor. The cabin has its own dedicated Dometic A/C + heat unit and includes a vanity/makeup table that doubles as a practical workstation, giving you a quiet place to work, plan routes, or manage ship’s admin away from the salon.

The owner’s head layout is equally well thought out. The shower is large enough for two, and the electric head is in a private enclosed closet with a door, providing both privacy and a cleaner “separate spaces” feel.

Guest accommodations are notably strong for a 40-foot catamaran. The aft guest cabin features a berth the same size as the owner’s, while the forward guest berth is a V-shaped double that is comfortable for one large adult or two smaller guests. Both guest cabins have closing doors for privacy, along with fans and a dedicated Dometic A/C + heat unit for the guest hull. The shared guest head and shower are also in a private enclosed closet with a door, keeping guest spaces comfortable and easy to live with.

The salon and galley support both daily living and entertaining. Cold storage is excellent with an Isotherm two-door refrigerator plus a separate Isotherm freezer, performing well both at anchor and on shore power. Cooking flexibility is a standout: a propane/butane stovetop, portable induction burner, and convection microwave make it easy to adapt to different cruising routines and power scenarios. The salon comfortably seats four adults for socializing and meals, and natural ventilation is strong—forward windows open, and the main door and sink window can be fully opened to create a bright, open-air living space.

Outside, the cockpit is the center of the boat’s lifestyle. The large cockpit dining table seats six, and the full canvas/Eisenglas enclosure provides meaningful protection in rain, cold, or wind—extending your cruising season and keeping the cockpit usable when the weather does not cooperate. The helm offers good visibility to starboard and forward to port (with more limited visibility to the aft port corner, typical of this layout).

Systems that support extended time at anchor

Aurora carries three total Dometic A/C + heat units (owner, salon, guest hull) that run on shore power or the generator. At anchor, the solar and wind generation keep refrigeration running reliably, and support opportunistic A/C use when conditions call for it. Fresh water independence is supported by a watermaker producing ~35 liters per hour, which makes day-to-day living at anchor far easier—showers, dishes, and routine freshwater needs without constantly planning dock stops.

In practical cruising terms, Aurora is well suited to remain off-grid for extended periods while maintaining the systems that matter most: refrigeration, ventilation/climate control, and water production. As with any cruising boat, the real-world limiting factors become diesel fuel (used by both the engines and generator when you choose to run A/C heavily) and provisions/food stores.

Condition and ownership experience

Aurora has been a genuinely easy boat to own. Outside of normal maintenance (oil changes, impellers, filters), she has required very little—bilges remain remarkably clean and dry, and her performance and comfort consistently exceed expectations.

Aurora represents what many buyers are looking for: a capable, comfortable, owner-operated Lucia 40 that is already outfitted, already proven, and ready to cruise.
